The Terroirs

FINCA MONTUIRI MALBEC - Old Wines
FINCA PIRCAS MALBEC - High Altitude
The expression of terroir from each of my vineyards (micro-climate, soil, old or young vines, crafted or un-crafted vines) define these wines. Low yields and balance in the vine deliver completely different wines year after year. Though the character remains the same.

Familia Mayol Finca Montuiri

100% Malbec. Single Vineyard
Old Vine Malbec (planted in 1926 on its own rootstock) from Luján de Cuyo.

This wine has been made through meticulous vineyard selection and canopy management. Vines naturally yield 16 hectoliters per hectare, 1.2 tons per acre (2,100 bottles).

Fermentation initiated with indigenous yeasts. Punch downs four times a day during fermentation and long maceration on the skins. Transferred by natural gravity into French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation was spontaneously produced. The wine rested in barrels for 18 months (50% new oak).

Familia Mayol Finca Pircas

Single Vineyard.
High Altitude Malbec (planted at an altitude of 1.060 meters / 3,478 feet) from Uco Valley.

This wine has been made through meticulous vineyard selection and canopy management. Vines naturally yield 18 hectoliters per hectare, 1.3 tons per acre (2,400 bottles).

Fermentation initiated with indigenous yeasts, a small percentage of passito malbec was added to the fermenting must. Transferred by natural gravity into French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation was spontaneously produced. The wine rested in barrels for 12 months (50% new oak).
